I wish someone could write a very well reported and unbiased book about the fall of siaad baare. Or the days leading to the colapse of somalia--military detail and manuevering tactics would be great to read.

Ayanshe ---is a habar yunis sub clan. And the Hawiye general is really cute. Is he alive today? I mean did have children? Sons? :|

I meant when the Free Officers took over in July, he was given the interior ministry (I think). I had a class on Nasser and Pan-Arabism today :)
No, he was not just a minister, he was indeed the commanding president and enforced himself to be the prime minister. He was more a less like Siad Barre but the difference was Somalis can not be ruled or Mr Barre would have been better appreciated if Somalis were ruled by foreigners for thousand years of documented history!!!

Was he in charge of the interior ministry? Nasser and Saddam Hussein were in charge of the interior ministries at the time of coup/revolution, in charge of the police and secret service.

Nasir was from the Free Officers organization, Naguib his boss was the 1st president.
what are you guys on? are we discussing iraq or somalia?

Actually the two generals/conolels behind the 1969 Coup D'etat were Hawiye and Isaaq, Major General Salaad Gabeyre Kediye (hawiye), and General Aynashe (isaaq) led the coup. Said Barre was just sitting and waiting in the interior ministers house, while these guys planned, and executed it brilliantly, he couldn't do it without these guys. Gabeyre was subsequently named the "Father of the Revolution", and Barre became the head of the Supreme Revolutionary Council. but because Said Barre was threatened that they will over take the party, he executed them after two years.

They brought darkness and ugly military mentality to Somali people that put elected prime minister in prison and was behind the assisination of beloved president . There is no difference between these guys and the said president who executed them. They’re not heroes. We had democratic elected government before their ugly tactics changed our lives forever. Military rulers are the cancer that eats away the third world nations.

Ismacill Cali obokor (a junior general and very close friend of Cigaal) was also part of the coup. Cigal later said, I forgive them all but Ismaciil. He said Ismacill was my friend and someone I trusted.
