Logical Fallacies...

Postby SultanOrder » Fri Oct 29, 2010 7:09 pm

I have become more interested in understanding and conceptulizing the art of learning logical fallacies. People who aren't trained in these can easily be led in wrong directions. Someone can draw connections, and imply something unrelated or only related superficially, and you could fall for it.

I have noticed a lot of people making these errors to bolster arguments and I who is not very knowledgeable in it can pick up why there argument is invalid. But I want to learn more, and I think anyone who wants to make correct decisions in between different arguments has to learn this.

I encourage everyone too aswell, we must become an educated people that aren't easily led like sheep or cattle.

^So why do you make logical fallacies all the time :?

and I was going to add, that this knowledge can be used to lead ignorant people the wrong way too. Subxannallah that is not my intention.

To my great annoyance, many of our contributing members are too frequently unwilling or unable to critically examine their own assumptions, or think critically before offering their opinions. I cannot say I am surprised, however. Most people don't have the critical thinking skills necessary to craft good arguments, and continually try to pass off logical fallacies as sound reasoning. Engaging in debate with these folks is often an exercise in futility. Every attempt of yours to point out and refute one of their logical fallacies, they respond by committing three more. And if you try to correct those, they'll commit even more logical fallacies. You'll find yourself in the conversational equivalent of running on a treadmill.

Critical Thinking doesn't count as an accepted A-Level, I wonder why...
