Why can't somalis get along and have a governement???

Postby wangrin » Mon Aug 15, 2005 10:09 am

Salam All,

I am originally from Senegal and finishing up my doctorate in Political Science. I am doing research in the forms of governement in Africa.
I have read several books about Somalia, all of them written by westerners.

Now, I want to hear from real somalis. Why do you think that Somalia can not have a governement after the fall of Siad Barre??? Why can't you get along? Somaliland was able to form a stable governement.
What is there with somalis that prevent them from living in peace and in a civilized fashion? Is it the somali culture?
All countries in Africa (some more stable than others) have a governement expect Somalia. What makes Somalia different?

Please explain what "qabiil waryaa" is. I am not somali and do not speak somali.
S-lander-boy, I think there is more to it than just the warlords' faults. From what I read, somalis have been fighting between clans for ages.
And I also see that there is a lot of hate in somali culture.
Al'hamdulillah, in my country, we have a lot of ethnic groups but we do get along fine. We do not fight amongst ourselves.

Salam again,

Yes, I am from Senegal and I do not need to have a flag on my profile to prove it.
No, I do not have any other nicknames. I did a search on Google on "Somali forum" and this website was listed first. So I guess this is the most popular somali forum on the internet.

Please, if you do not mind, can you use English words when replying this thread as I do not understand somali.

Thanks

Wangrin

Welcome bro, dont be put off by whats written here, it normal behavior and is really harmless.

Well to give a short answer to your question.

Somalis are very individualistic and proud people and do not easily put up with oppression.
Since most african and even middle eastern countries have experienced some form of dictatorship, meaning rule by the country by a single ethnic group, namely the presidents.

In somalia when the dictatorship was brought down, it stayed down, becuase all the competing groups in this case clans were attempting to
recreate the old situation, and this was unacheavable because everyone was armed to the teeth, except for some poor minority groups which were run over.

You refused to speak for yourself maha? He asked 'What makes SOMALIA different", he's talking about the country, not it's people. Please try to contain yourself an re-read the question. Somali people aren't ignorant but blessed. Wink

Why can't somalis get along and have a governement???

It is very easy brother. Obviously, you can’t understand right now if I tell you the reason since you are not a Somali. However, just stay tuned in this web site (Somali net forum) and you will find it out by yourself.

Anyway, welcome to Somali net.
