Mogadishu (Sunatimes) A UN delegation led by the United Nations Secretary General Representative for Somalia Ambassador Agustin Mahinga arrived this morning in Garowe, the capital of Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Puntland.
Mahinga’s delegation held a meeting with Puntland’s president Abdirahman Farole and some members of his cabinet immediately after arriving in Puntalnd.
Although the press did not cover the meeting, President Farole as well as the ambassador both briefed the media and said that the UN delegation and Puntland administration discussed about security matters in the region and the entire Somalia.
Farole described Mahinga as a man who wants Somalia to achieve peace and stability as he gives priority to security matters. President Farole also told the media that he discussed with Agustin Mahinga about issues Puntalnd would like the UN to address in order to help it.
On his part, Ambassador Mahinga also emphasized on the importance of peace and stability in Somalia. He told reporters he was impressed with the peace and stability of Puntland. Ambassador Mahinga said Puntland is a Model for all of Somalia to follow. He continue and said "the fruits of peace, strength of government and unity of the people in this part of Somalia have made the on going development in this part of Somalia, I saw today with my own eyes a reality." The Ambassador promised to return soon and take a whole tour of the entire state.
