Mogadishu 2010

I imagine that's what Mogadishu would look like in 2010 with the exclusion of civil war, at the very least. Aside from the much higher towers it looks like the Mogadishu skyline circa 1980s.

Monk

How much do you think it would cost to rebuild Mogadishu?

I'm not a civil engineer but Mogadishu doesn't need to be rebuilt, just regenerated, the only thing destroyed was buildings which can just be removed. Less than $100 million could "rebuild" the city.

Somalia needs intelligent people in order to build and maintain advanced infrastructure. Unfortunately, most of the high IQ people (such as the doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc) have fled, along with the average IQ middle class. I don't see any viable way of attracting them back, as peace doesn't seem likely any time soon. Mogadishu probably won't look like a livable city until several decades in the future when intelligent robots are able to build cities for us.

Of course mogadishu needs rebuilding. Even if mogadishu was peaceful and you'd put 100 million dollars into it, it still wouldn't be enough to even be on the same level as most other african cities e.g. Lagos, Nigeria. It needs 500 mill to 1 billion dollars in reconstruction as well hundreds of millions of dollars inas development of infrastructure. Somalia lacks soo much in infrastructure, it's not even funny. It is one of the few countries on earth that lacks a railway, nevermind a nationwide rail network. Besides, mogadishu isn't Somalia, it's just one city. If effort was put into other cities in somalia by the former government, we wouldn't be in this mess today.

I hope Mogadishu never rebuilds.

That city is a curse. Any person that likes it, shall die in it and be buried in it.
