There are no Taxi drivers in my city. You can't make money in a small town of 9000 residents driving a taxi. I was thinking of getting a G2 or a Mytouch 4G. Does anyone have these? And how are they?

I finally got a G2 on Friday. Before that I had a HTC HD2 with an android 2.2 aka froyo instead of the standard Windows running software. Prior to that I had the G1 and loved it. The G2 is a dream phone, to me personally. It runs like butter, I've installed a dozen or so apps on it thus far and eventhough its memory isn't like the HD2 - its by far a more superior phone. Android fans can enjoy a G2, the android on it is the 2.2 froyo as well, but its not the froyo sense. Some people prefer the froyo sense because it looks a bit more flashy and graphics are a bit more developed, but I prefer the standard froyo that the G2 comes with.

The camera is 3.5 mm. Its not a big phone, but it slides, so you don't have to use the actual screen for texting and typing. Battery life thus far is great. No freezing. It doesn't have the big analog clock that the HD2 had and the weather effects, but it does great with the apps. I installed 'All task kill' app so you can run a few apps at once and close them at once with that option. I also installed the Dolphin HD browser and found it to be more user friendly than the standard browser or even Skyfire.

It comes with WiFi calling, which means your calls will never drop no matter where you are, even in an elevator or the subway, because you'll be using WiFi signal instead of the antenna signal. It comes with Google voice, Google maps (with voice directions), and a lot of Google apps. It was definitely worth the $179 I had to pay. Might wanna install the Tango app for camera conversation and Pandora for music.

Btw - the G2 is also a 4G phone, but it won't matter in a small town of 9000 people, T-mobile probably hasn't bothered with upgrading its browing connection to 4G yet.

The phone comes with a 32 GB SD card as part of the package, but if you put it under insurance, they won't let you have the SD card for some reason. That's what happened to me. So, I bought one for around $20. It also comes with standard headphones that are different from the old G1 headphones. I would suggest buying a Plantronics wireless, blue-tooth headphones for around $79 on amazon.com. These headphones come with a little adapter you plug in to your phone and you can use them without the clutter of loose wires, great sound performance and essentially block out any surrounding noises, they got the control buttons on the headphones, so you can pause whatever you're listening to, volume control and receiving calls. Great for use at the gym.

THanks Halfdzed. I was hoping someone would break it down like that and you did exactly that. The G2 sounds like an awesome phone. I wanted to wait for the Nexus S but there isn't even a release date set for that yet. Say I wanted Froyo Sense instead of the standard version, would I be able to easily upgrade my os to that version? I was thinking of waiting a little longer until they release Gingerbread but that first version of anything always has too many flaws so I will pass on that.

You can install the froyo sense on your G2 from what I've heard, but it may not be the best option since the sense is not customized for the G2. You risk having both softwares simulteanously running in the background causing freezing issues and battery drain. That's why I ditched the HD2 - because eventhough I had installed the android froyo on the phone, whenever I turned off the phone and restarted it, the Windows would come on instead of the android. Then I would have to go through my SD card to access the android. It also meant the Windows software was always running in the background even if I wasn't on it, but was on the android. This meant my battery was running out much faster than it would have otherwise.

I also forgot to mention that in addition to WiFi calling, with the G2 - you can do a WiFi Hotspot. Which is essentially providing internet connection for your laptop using your phone. You connect your phone to your laptop through the USB portal. Then run the WiFi Hotspot from your phone's Connection settings option. You tap in to T-mobile's connection and have a wireless speed internet connection in case you have your laptop with you in an area with no internet connection. This service is now free with T-mobile, but from what I've been hearing, they plan charging customers $14.99/mo for it in the near future.

That is nice man. I thought Google was going to announce the release for the Nexus S sometime next year but today they revealed it will be available on the 16th of this month. It is a lot like the G2 except for some minor difference. I was hoping it would have a 1.7 ghz processor like they have been saying but unfortunately it will the same 1 ghz one. That is quite disappointing but it still looks like a decent. Only if it had an actual keyboard and it would be the perfect phone for me. I am not a big fan of touch screen as I am convinced it will eventually cause carpal tunnel and shit in many people.

Yh, the Nexus Pure Google looks pretty good no doubt, but its a hybrid phone that combines a lot of the technology that's already on the market. They got the 4'' big screen which the HD series already offers, they got the video chat which the mytouch already has. The Google voice and WiFi calling which the G2 already provides. The most appealing thing about the Nexus would have to be the new 2.3 android "Gingerbread" which is supposedly a more powerful running software and also its 500 RAM processor. They did downgrade the Ghz to 1.0 just like the G2, believe it or not the HD2 has 1.6 Ghz and that's what I miss about it, you could download over a 100 apps and that baby would still take more. Now I got 80 apps on my G2 and I'm stopping there. If you don't mind the touch-screen for typing, go with the Nexus, its a lot like the G2, but even faster and sports the Gingerbread. If you prefer a keyboard, get the G2, you might even be able to upgrade the froyo on it to the Gingerbread.

There's apparently a root for the froyo sense on the G2 and its pretty much an easily upgradable hack now as an os.
