AMISOM Strength

Postby Monk-of-Mogadishu » Wed Dec 08, 2010 1:56 am

What is their strength?

They have 8,000 troops. They also have howitzers, tanks, mortars, cargo trucks, armored vehicles and armored bulldozers -- but how many of those? I had this retarded idea that they had hundreds of tanks but its impossible for their force to have any more than 50 tanks.

Discuss.

50 tanks is too much... it more like a dozen armoured vehicles..

They've got tons of tanks, they've also lost quite a few, looks like a mix of T-55s or T-72s and some M60 Pattons. If they had only a dozen armored vehicles as you said, they wouldn't be around today, they rely on their heavy tank defenses. AMISOM has the same strategy for Xamar as Puntland does for Gaalkacyo, there's an old T-55 parked at Gaalkacyo airport solely used for defense/retaliation against attacks from the southern neighborhoods.

good call they are a mix of T-55's and Pattons..
upgraded too, you can see the expolosive reactive armour blocks around them.

they are vulnerable to Rpg-7s though,...

imagine if someone supplies alshabaab with second generation ATGM's like the kornets the hezbollah used.

i wonder where we can get an order of battle for the Amisom and a list of equipment they are deploying..

even if they have tons of tanks or whatever, they shouldn't use it because this is not a conventional warfare. you don't use tanks in cities damn us Africans!!! and by doing so, you will only massacre the same innocent people whom you swore to protect them.

au soldiers have killed more innocent mogadishions then AL shabab.

The terrorists have what looks to me like anti-tank grenades (back row of first pic), not sure.

I'm sure at least their AA guns can disable a tank.

the thin tubes are strellas, anti-aircraft and useless against tanks.
The fat tubes are TOW's amefican missiles from the 70's, allot of countries still produce them like Iran, Pakistan, Egypt
so there is still a source of supply...

I am surprised to see only rpg-7s, no russian guided missles

I understand the usage of AA guns on the ground but what use are Strelas and other anti-aircraft missiles against ground game, considering they cost so much more than RPG-7s which do the same job.
