Mubarak's Ruling Party Wins Egyptian Parliamentary Elections

Postby Navy9 » Wed Dec 08, 2010 10:25 am

Mubarak's Ruling Party Wins Egyptian Parliamentary Elections by Landslide

The ruling National Democratic Party of President Hosni Mubarak won more than four-fifths of the 508-seat assembly, the government’s State Information Service said in an e-mailed statement yesterday in Cairo. The first round of voting was Nov. 28 and runoff elections were held Dec. 5.

The Muslim Brotherhood pulled out of the election, saying it was rigged, a charge the NDP has denied.

How many seats did the opposition win in the Parliament? I remember watching television in Ethiopia last May and it was reported that the opposition won a single seat.

The egyptians will not challenge the status quo as long as they can afford to buy foul medames, bread and once in a year able to enjoy some meat. The real test would be after Mubarak's death and whether the people can watch Gamal becoming a president.

The Egyptians grow wheat that produces bread for only 80 days/yr, the rest is imported, with the bread crisis that is increasing day by day and with all the ongoing corruption, for how long the average egyptian can bear what is going on!

It is not a solution to overthrow a government regardless of how corrupt it is if there are no:

A- Unity among People.
B- Plan in place to move ahead after revolution.

And above all, People have to believe in COUNTRY AND RELIGION. Somalis believed in neither and we know what happened to them. Egyptians should keep their patience and hope for the best. Someday they will get their break inshallah.

Navy9, if the price of khubz and ta'maya go up again the people will revolt. Hosni only kept the people happy because of the low food prices but last year khubz skyrocketed and if it happens again it will spell big trouble for Bilaad ul Niil

Maybe they are more patient than Somalis, but the state has control over the whole country and thus able to keep check on dissent through a large police force and constant emergency laws
