Security forces of Somalia's semi-autonomous state of Puntland have thwarted an assassination attempt against a Puntland civil servant, an official said Wednesday.
Two men armed with pistols shot and wounded a driver working for Puntland’s ministry of finance, said Abdulhafid Ali Yusuf, Puntland’s governor of the Bari region. He went on to say that one of the assailants was gunned down by security forces on the spot. The other alleged assailant was wounded and later captured.
The targeted driver, Ali Osman Buh, was critically wounded.
The incident took place in the Biyo Kulule neighborhood north of Puntland’s commercial town of Bosaso, according to law enforcement reports. It occurred as Puntland’s police were involved in search operations in which they apprehended more than 200 people, according police officers.
