Ethiopia's opposition leader:WikiLeaks show US Hypocrisy

Ethiopian Opposition says WikiLeaks documents reveal US policy on Ethiopia is only fight terrorism

Ethiopia’s main opposition coalition Medrek official and political scientist Dr. Merera Gudina has told SSI that the United States foreign policy in Africa especially in Ethiopia is focused only on the so called fight against terrorism.

However Merera noted that the WikiLeaks revelations on Ethiopia until now could only give snapshots and not a full image of Ethiopian and American intelligence documents.
“for instance it articulates about the health of the Prime Minster though it didn’t go into detail about it and many other important issues, so it doesn’t give a full picture”, argued Merara.

“What we understand from the documents is that for the past ten years the US foreign policy was mainly dictated by the Pentagon which became the main actor in executing foreign policy more than State Department, especially when dealing with US agenda in fighting the so called terrorism. We hear about democracy and human rights the political mantra of US politicians”, Merera stated.

The embarrassing US diplomatic cables released by WikiLeaks have put leaders across Africa and elsewhere in the hot seat. The cables highlight political tensions in Eritrea; describe Ethiopia’s security official as hot tempered, recluse; hints at Kenya’s involvement in arming South Sudan
