Somalia: Puntland forces seize more than 100 people

Postby Coeus » Tue Dec 14, 2010 1:17 pm

Some 130 people were taken into custody by Somalia’s Puntland security forces after search operations assuring the security of Puntland’s port town of Bosaso, locals said Tuesday.

Thirty of the apprehended were captured in their business centers.

Witnesses said a lot of Pntland security forces flanked by military wagons could be seen in the streets and neighborhoods in an attempt to curb the repeated insecurity and planned assassinations against the officials of Puntland administration.

Reports from Bosaso also suggest that old men and women were among the arrested.

Puntland’s crackdown comes as the prisons of Puntland are filled with many people arrested for connection with creating and conducting insecurity activities against the tranquility of the areas controlled by Puntland authorities.

The administration’s officials vowed they will keep those operations until security assured.

Insecurity and violence in parts of Puntland have reportedly been rampant in the last few months.

Two weeks ago, Abdullahi Salah Shirwa’, Puntland’s high court attorney, was killed in the center of Bosaso, located about 1,500 kilometers north of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
