Maj. Barigye Ba-Hoku, the spokesman for African Union peacekeepers in Somalia on Friday denied their forces had shelled Bakaara, very populated market in southern part of Somalia's capital Mogadishu.
The denial of AMISOM comes one day after their force excessively shelled Mogadishu's Bakaara market with heavy artillery weapons and that claimed the lives of many civilians.
The spokesman stressed there is no an AMISOM soldier or officer, who had been allowed to strike the heavily peopled Bakaara market.
Mr. Ba-Hoku said they had inflicted severe heavy loses on Al shabaab in the last Mogadishu battles, adding that they killed dozens of what he called extremist elements.
Bakaara is a place which people come to shop and make businesses; he was quoted by Shabelle Radio as saying.
AMISOM shelling to the market on Thursday killed more than 15 people and wounded 30 others. All killed or wounded in al shabaab controlled Bakaara areas were innocent civilian people, according to witnesses.
