Luq — As severe droughts struck many regions in southern and central war-ravaged Somalia, at least 5 toddlers have died of hunger and thirst in Luq district in Gedo region of southern Somalia, residents said on Tuesday.
Abdi Hassan Mohammed, one of local residents Luq, told Shabelle the children died in the village of Ebon about 40 KM north of Luq district, adding that hundreds of families in parts of Gedo live in desperate conditions.
"Many people, who displaced from Wajid, are pouring in Luq, one of the hottest places in Somalia according to its bad atmosphere." Mohammed recounted.
He called all Somalis to act quickly to help droughts affected vulnerable people including children and women those who are facing bad live conditions.
Many regions in war-ridden horn of Africa nation face relentless failures of seasonal rains for more than a year.
