In the last part of the saga, UAE slapped an exorbitant amount of fees for visas from Canadians.

Feel sorry for all the Somalis in Canada who travel to Dubai knowing that is one of the central Somali traveling spots either for transit or leisure/business :lol:

Canada is showing protectionism. Is that a positive thing though for a Western capitalistic country? I thought it was very ironic the US shoves free markets down nation's throats (the two worst examples being African farmers and the Asian Tigers in the 90's) but when push came to shove nationalized the car industry instead of letting competition take care of it.

Canada doesn't have a problem with protectionism like the USA does, but unlike Germany we lack the subtlety necessary to be good at it.
