What is this poem about?

Postby Basra- » Fri Dec 31, 2010 1:06 am

What is your interpretation of it. Lets discuss it. :clap:

She Walks in Beautyby Lord Byron (George Gordon)

Lord Byron (George Gordon)
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

Your literature class homework? I don't know the story behind this poem but it looks like he is talking about a very beautiful lady whose inner beauty matches her physical description. I don't see any suggestion of desire to mate so she could also be his daughter, sister, mom, etc. I am not into literature and I can be way off the mark.

PO@loooool

u r so lazy and so un-interested in poems, u r funny. :clap: :clap:

waryaa

thanks for your interpretations. :clap:

I think the poem is about Lord Byrons mood. He envied the calm and peace in the womans face. Byron was plagued with bi polar darkness, so in essense, he associates beauty with calmness and peace in her face and mind that he misses. :clap: :clap:

I see a man's desperate desire to make sense of a wastrel life full of nothing but hedonistic sexual pleasure at the hands of buxom ladies laced with a garden of lush venereal diseases. I mean the man is responsible for single handedly making syphilis sexy again. Quite an achievement if I do so say myself.

Whatever helps you to sleep better sweet cheeks *Shrugs* I for one need to go shopping for tonight, the hour grows late and thus I must bid you and Lord Byron a good night.

When I saw the title, I thought you were talking about a Somali poem but when I opened the thread I saw some English kuturi-kuteen words which I have no idea what they mean. Ah, I have forgotten you are Basra who would always let me down :idea:
