Married Couples In the Somali Society

Postby hanad_mn » Sat Jan 01, 2011 3:27 pm

Ok this is what I noticed. When two somalis get married, Each one of them values his/her family more than the marriage. The family that they have together becomes second. The house would rather send all her husband savings to relatives rather than telling them my husband would save it for us. The husband would rather send thousands to his brother rather than giving it to his wife to save it for them.

Basically, it is like they are not one family like the other societies. They are two individuals with different desires and dreams to fullfil.

Why can't the wife and the husband care, protect and bond with each other like the other societies. The families take advantage of their division and scoundel them of all the money that they have. Naa ninka kasoo qaad, war naagta wax haysaga dhiibin. Naa ninku dadkaaga majeclo, war naagta waxay rabtaah in ay gacanta kugu dhigto. this is bull shit.

if a somali woman works, her money would rather go to her family than spending it on her own house.

how can we solve dhibkaan. interllectual debate please.

Yeah I noticed that, the two families are on two opposing ends each trying to fight for the rights of their son/daughter. I think it's sweet, as long as they don't actually interfere in the marriage.

And to answer your question, I don't think the couples would be the way you say if they actually married for love and Somalis generally don't, they marry because it's time to get married, they want to have kids, the spouse seemed like a good catch, they don't want to be single anymore...
