Mogadishu — African Union peacekeepers in Somalia's capital Mogadishu, on Sunday, spoke about their performances in the past year, claiming victory over 2010 Mogadishu combats with Islamist insurgents.
In an interview with Shabelle Radio, Maj. Barigye Ba-Hoku, a spokesman for African Union peacekeepers in Mogadishu, said AMISOM made advances in Mogadishu's war zones during last year, indicating they succeeded their goal of the battles.
AMISOM forces achieved to protect the existing of Somalia's transitional federal government and keeping economic infrastructures such as: Mogadishu international harbor and Aden Adde airport, as well as helping the people of war-devastated Somalia.
Ba-Hoku accentuated Mogadishu protected Islamist led Mogadishu violence claimed the lives of many Somalis, noting Al shabaab's Ramadan declared offensive was the deadliest is seen for years.
The spokesman pointed out AMISOM is committed keeping on its efforts to bring peace back to war-ridden horn of Africa nation.
He also talked about the unity of Somalia's main Islamist groups: Al shabaab and Hizbul Islam, saying their meger doesn't make any sense.
