The name Abdi is in the Bible

Postby ToughGong » Mon Jan 03, 2011 10:56 am

:o

I though it was a pure Somali corruption of Obeid
Chronicles 6:29.[3] "And on the left hand their brethren the sons of Merari: Ethan the son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch."[4]

The bible isn't accurate when it comes to names. They corrupt the names to make them sound more european.

Like Yeshua into Jesus
Maryam into Mary
Dawiid into David
Yohanan into John

etc.

For all we know "Abdi" could be a corruption of Abdiakdnsaknsiah.

BTW the somali abdi isn't a corruption of ubaid, it's a corruption of Abdul-, e.g. Abdirahman instead of Abdulrahman.

I doubt it. Abdi is an arab origin word--from 'abiid' meaning black slave.

I've never met a non-Isaaq Somali named Abdi alone. Other tribes at least add something on the end. Fatah, for example.

Idoor are the only clan content with Abiid as a first name.

Who's talking shit?

I once met a Isaaq man, mid-60's who's name was Abdi Robinson walahi. First name Abdi last name Robinson. Slave of Robinson. Straight from Burco.

And how can a Muslim have just the name Abdi? Would any Idoor like to clear this up?
