Elbur — A woman had been raped by several men in an Al shabaab Elbur district in Galgudud region in central Somalia, witnesses said on Tuesday.
Local residents said the district was surrounded by more fighters loyal to Al shabaab after the rape.
A witness, who asked his name to be used in the media, told Shabelle that some 7 men held the woman in a house in Elbur district where they were raping her from 11:00am to 06:00 local time in Monday.
Unverified sources said that some of Al shabaab fighters were involved in the rape.
The raped woman, who was not named for security reasons, was taken a hospital in the area for treatment.
Locals told Shabelle that Al shabaab fighters detained at least two people in connection with the crime after search operations in the district.
Al shabaab officials have not commented the incident so far as the district is under their control.
