Some People believe given the chance, Alshabaab could be the only power that can unite somalia, win the hearts and minds of the people, enhance peace and restore justice and happiness for all somalis.

What do you think?

It's called asking for the opinion of a person who's clearly well versed in Somali politics. Would you prefer he ask for a specifically Somali ethnic viewpoint, which will inevitably consist of irrationality and strong bias?

try and justify it however you may, but Somali politics and concerns are that of the Somali people and should remain so until Somali people learn to tolerate their differences. that's my $.02.

Sxb somali affairs is what the world thinks and wants out of somalia and not what somalis wants. Remember the people of muqdisho wanted islamic courts union but they were denied of the apportunity because it was not approved by UN, US and Ethiopia.

anyone who believes somali affairs lies in the hands of Somalis is either uninformed or unaware. Somali politics has never been in the hands of somalis. All the presidents and prime ministers that somalia had including the current one has been indirectly appointed by UN under US approval with Ethiopian goodwill. Farmaajo and sheikh sharif were introduced to each other 5 days before appointment and so was Geedi and abdullaahi yusuf. Noor Adde and abdullaahi yusuf was introduced to each other 2 days before he appointed him.

Ending the war, regardless of who manages to bring it to a close, would be an enormous benefit to Somalia. I don't think anyone would disagree with that.

Al-Shabaab is something of a double-edged sword in this regard. On the one hand, they seem resistant to clan divisions and have brought some law and order to their areas. On the other hand the belligerent attitude of al-Shabaab will inevitably lead to further conflicts elsewhere.

For there to be lasting peace in Somalia, al-Shabaab and the west essentially have to agree to some kind of ceasefire.

As The-Screw mentioned though my opinion counts for little. The three people who can bring peace to Somalia are President Obama, Sheikh Sharif and Godane. If those three can come to an agreement then great, but I doubt it.
