Waad mahadsantahay for the tips, laakin how about I just move out and look for a new place to live, ileen waan isku kaadiya when I see the damn thing staring at me with those yucky eyes, another thing, based on observation' most somalis are afraid of dogs, I wonder why, we are talking about 90% here lol

Somalis don't know them, and most of us never lived with a dog. Those of us who are not "afraid" of dogs, are still not totally comfortable around them. We just don't like them very much. We much prefer cats. Dogs are creepy.

Not to make you any more worried than you are, consider the possibility of having the same challenge( fear of a dog with owner) to face after you have moved to new place. I would definitely encourage you to face it. Overcoming your fear will have more to do with you socializing with the said dog. Your biggest hurdle will be controlling you fear. It's been said that dogs can sense fear, and it makes them agitated and some dogs will become more aggressive when they sense someone is afraid of them, so relax and notice the owner don't die. Take little steps and eventually with persistence you will be able to interact with a lot of dogs..... when your ready for the really big step; see if there is an off leash dog park in your area, there will be dogs of all sizes running around. The majority of them will be very social and friendly.

Thanks, I don't consider it a phobia, that is a serious business, yeah I noticed most dogs are friendly, the problem is when we see them without a leash, we assume the worst and run naturally, and I learned the hard way that is the worst mistake you can make like Hyper said, because they think you are playing with them and they will chase you, and of course you are running like a mad person screaming, while everyone is laughing at you lol

I'm terrified of dogs (especially pitbulls, they are just scary looking). It wasn't an issue before, but now my new neighbour has a dog, and I noticed he only barks at black people and tries to bit them, so any solutions to overcome this fear

How about you play the "little ol white lady" card, and notify the Royal Canadian mountain police or whatever, on your neighbor n his dog? Tell em it tried to bite you, your other "white" friends, their mother, AND the blind, deaf, paraplegic child across the street. Be sure to not leave out all that white foamy stuff around it's mouth too. Pray they'll send a black inspector over, and ur problem would be solved with a matter of a few hours. lol

Nabs.... u r not alone. Many Somalis have that affliction, i think it has something to do with childhood trauma of being chased by dogs coupled with the religious aspect that a dog is a najiis. We were imbedded in our childhood, with dog is haraam or najiiis, it is associated with filth, so there the aspect of i dont want the dog to touch me or sniff me, and i dont want to re-live my childhood trauma of being chased by neighbor dogs.

lol, i know most Somalis have this fear ,i grew up around non-Somalis, we used to chase wild dogs every single day
i was a bit crazy when i was a kid we even used to steal puppies from wild dogs ,
and my mom used to throw rocks at me , calling me nijaaz

yeah sxb a gangsta's gotta have a pitbul just as you gotta have big fat bling bling rims on your car..so since I didnt had any car or driver license i was too young to have it..so I had to get my self a pitbull..
