so he gave each man a $1 and kept the other $2 for himself.
this meant that the 3 men each paid $9 for the room, which is a
total of $27, and the $2 that the bellboy kept = $29.

yhh its a semantic fallacy because they ended up paying 25 plus the 2 dollars they paid the bellman, which is 27 and 9 x 3 = 27

I do a lot of math word problems, and I could figure this out, and I swear I didn't google it.

forget about what each man paid, because he only returned 30-5 = 25, so in the first place it wasn't evenly divided. so you have $25 + $3 = $28, plus the $2 the bellboy kept, total = $30. solved?

the room cost them $25 together, so first divide 25/3 then add 3, then add 2.

actual charge = 25 (per person = 25/3=8.333)
change = 5
received change = 3
busboy change = 2
25 + 3 = 28 --> 28 + 2 = 30

This sentence below is the misleading part of the question.

It is actually (25/3)=8.333 + 1 = 9.333
9.333+(2/3) = 0.666 = $10
$10x3 = $30
