Union you are actually directly furthering my argument, Allah SWT uses the word literally in the aforementioned ayaat about the thief, and in other circumstances uses a dfferent grammatical metaphoric word for the same word would make sense 'cutting off relationship'. This is common sense yo ucan't literally cut a relationship

How do you know he doesn't mean cutting the causes compelling the thief to steal? Like poverty, lack of education?

And why didn't Prophet Joseph cut the hands of the thief in that story in the Qu'ran?

I think you may argue that Al Shabaab isn't giving people a fair trial, or that they are cutting off hands when mass poverty exists and they should take that account before amputations.

But I don't think you can call cutting off limbs "draconian" or not apart of the religion. From the time of the prophet it is clear that it is a fair and just practice and is decreed by Allah. If you really think otherwise, I'm not sure of what else to say to you.

No i t's not up for interpretation the Quran is a clear book with guidance an all, there are no riddles, our scholars have agreed that thief hand must be cut off unless he was forced to steal under special circumstances, such as poverty.
Most people dont steal for fun, the people in Somalia are poor so they do have a reason. We know that Allah is forgiving.

Alshabab are cutting of hands for their own agenda.

Am I wrong for advocating for an interpretation of the Qu'ran that is humane, just, and decent? A religion revealed from the most righteous himself has to be the most righteous, and whichever way you make it out cutting off a hand for stealing a cellphone isn't right.
