Somali Refugees Flee Yemen

Sunday, March 20, 2011

At least 60 Somali refugees fled Yemen due to the unrest situation in country and reached to the port town of Bosasso.

One of the refugees, told local media reporters that the Somalis were accused by Yemenis of being mercenaries fighting on behalf of Yemeni leader Ali Abdullah Saleh.

''We fled from Yemen due to poor living conditions, social inequality, instability, lack of freedom, oppression, current political unrests and many other reasons,” Mr. Osman told media outlets.

According to UN agencies in Somalia, at least 250 Somali refugees returned back to their native country from Yemen since 26th January when anti-government protests rocked the country.

they should have returned to their homeland a long time ago. there's nothing in Yemen; Yemen is poorer than Somalia. if the country you migrating to is not better or well off, why migrate in the first place or stay there once you realized it is not what you thought it was. your homeland is always better than any other third-world countries.

If the conflict escalates, where will they flee to? Going back to the Somali peninsula will be difficult for the 100,000+ somalis living in Yemen as it would take many planes & ships that arn't available. Oman or Saudi Arabia by foot/car it is.

Yemenis and Somalis have much in common. Both muslim. Qat, women wear dirac, men wear macawis, FGM, qabiils... add more.

Yemen was also formerly two countries (North and South).

I see why Somalis feel at home there lol,
