East African's Features, Amazing

Postby Murax » Thu Mar 24, 2011 6:14 pm

Don't You find it amazing how distinct their features are? Think about it, You can see a White person and You do not know if He's from Portugal, US, Brazil, Russia. You can see a Black Sub Saharan person and not know if they're from Uganda or Ghana. You can see a Oriental person and not be able to distinguish someone from Thailand, Laos or Cambodia.

You see a Somali though and You know without a shadow of a doubt 100% this person is Somali even if a Gun's to ur head.

You can see a Eithopian person and You can also swear this person is Ethiopian 100%.

Its not even us who can tell even White people if they've seen a few Somalis, can easily point them out. I think this is something that is unique to East Africa. Considering how old Somali DNA is, I think they are just a ancient race that had very little inter breeding/interaction with foreigners which is why they all share that striking resemblance.

We all look alike but we don't look alike.

It's some weird sh!t

Anyone that says they can pinpoint the exact features of Somalis is a liar.

East Africa? I assume you mean only Horn of Africa.

Contrary to popular belief a lot of horn of Africans do not have the stereotypical "HOA look" which is believed to be elongated bodies and sharp Caucasoid facial features. I know few Amharas and Oromos and they kinky hair, flat noses and they are typically short. For the most part you can't tell them apart from other African from Congo or Namibia for example. I think the most easily identifiable "Horn of African look" is the Somalis due to the fact the we are one of the most homogeneous people in African.

May be so. Laakin Advo runta sheeg, if You see a Somali on the bus or a train You know they are Somali. You're not thinking "Man this person could be from the Dominican republic"

A cadaan who visited Somaliland commented on Somalis features:

""The Somalis: physically, they are often rather tall, skinny, with slightly distorted facial features like an overbite, long chins, and deep set eyes. My instincts tell me they are odd; if you want one word to describe them and their appearance, use "crazy". Its the single word I've heard the most often in response to the Somali people"

somalis can come in different colors, sizes, heights, have different hair texture and forehead shape/size but there's something about them that is so... somali. maybe it's the screw face they all walk around with. :?

whites can be telled apart, an eastern european is not the same as western, a southern isn't same as the northern. Same with the arabs, asians, and africans. It's just how familiar you are with the features of a certain people than you can tell them apart. What you are pointing out Murax, is your real ignorance and you are using that as a basis of analysis, comparison, and conclusion. You my friend are not very inteligent and all those who followed your ignorant reasoning

Murax are you upto 'worshiping' carlton coon?

I mean variations exist throughout subsahara but those closer to each other resemble to some degree. Somalis did not just land from mars and surely they would resemble their kins the cushitic block as well as their distant cousins the nilotes and to some extent the semites.

the arrow will point at the direction where you have most admixture.

Its a myth to claim that somalis have a distinctive look.

I mean how many at times have I seen Eritreans, Sudaneese and started talking somali with them where they politely told me they were not somalis and how many at times did I start an English conversation with someone that I assumed to be Nigerian and latter found out he was somali?

Somalis from the north of the country (both Somaliland and Puntland) have specific look, but South Somalis can look like anything.

To some degree yes and to some no.

It all depends on how one interpretes your remarks.

Cafeterias line this road in Hargeysa, and all eyes are on me as throngs of Somalis sit in their plastic chairs and listen to the radios. There are no televisions around. Dinner was three samosas and a Fanta for a whopping US dollar's worth of Shillings. The Somali who led me around, surprisingly, didn't ask for a tip. Just by that gesture I knew he wasn't Ethiopian.
