Jubba Airways- The Pride of Somalia

Postby RovingMadness » Wed Apr 06, 2011 12:28 am

In a such a short time since its inception, this airlines has established itself as the premier airlines in the country and even though it face competition new airlines like Osob Airlines, I think it will continue to dominate the Somali Aviation scene.

Hold on guys, I flew with this airline twice and it has 3 major problems:

1. Its Databases are very inconsistent that they overbook their seats. My travel was delayed twice because of these problems in 2010.

2. Agents can overwrite a booked seat and put their person over another customer who has already paid for the seat.

3. The air planes they use inside Somalia are the worst planes for any human being to fly with. These planes are old, unhealthy, and no AC (air conditioner) in the Russian-crew run planes that operate inside Somalia. Imagine catching a plane in Boosaaso or Berbera in mid June/July heat without an AC? You would almost suffocate in those planes. They had to use good BOEING 747 planes from Dubai to Somalia because the UAE Aviation Authority would not allow them to operate those risky planes from/to Dubai. Since there is no effective authority anywhere in Somalia, Somali travellers inside Somalia have no choice but to fly on those high risk Russian-operated planes.

The Somali businessmen who are running these airlines are providing a better and well-maintained plane(s) for thravellers who travel between Dubai and Mogadishu because any plane who does not pass the rigorous safety testing is neither going to fly to nor from Dubai because UAE Authority will not allow them, whereas their planes who travel within Somalia are the worst planes that any human being can travel with. Let us get real folks, there are enough Somali travellers in the diaspora who want to travel back and forth to Somalia but these Somali businessmen don't really consider Somali travellers' safety seriously when their planes are operating inside Somalia.

As far as I know, UAE aviation authority at least grounded twice the Jubba Airways planes due to safety issues, and they had to lease other planes from other airlines due to these safety concerns. This is the reason why Somali-run planes don't come to Europe any more. It is all due to their irresponsible greed of making money and not taking into account travellers' safety. Daallo tried its best but because of lack safety standards in Somali and DJibouti aviation authorities, its licence to Europe was cancelled.

ZERO interest, bro

Udun,

Matter of personal taste, bro. Ciyaal-warta flew on Jubba Airways more times than you and he has totally different view then you.

In business, the end-game is profit and people always aim to maximize profits while minimizing costs and until there is a credible aviation regulatory policy in place, nothing will change.

African governments more than anything get in the way of development. Look what Ethiopia does to its business community. It shuts down business every few months for unknown reasons.

All (and many more problems) true :(
