Sheikh Atam strikes again captures puntland town

Postby grandpakhalif » Wed May 11, 2011 10:47 am

Associated Press= MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — Fifteen people were killed when hundreds of Islamist insurgent fighters seized a town in northern Somalia on Wednesday, an official said.

The official says the Islamists are in control of the town of Gal Gala, which is 25 miles (40 kilometers) southwest of the port of Bosasso, the commercial hub of the semiautonomous northern region of Puntland.

The official said nine soldiers and six insurgents had been killed in Wednesday's fighting and that government forces were regrouping to launch a counterattack. He asked not to be named because he is not authorized to speak to the press.

The insurgents are led by Sheik Ali Gamey, linked to arms dealer Mohamed Atom, who the U.N. accuses of supplying weapons to Somalia's al-Shabab militia in the south. The town used to be a base for Atom's fighters.

Gamey was a member of al-Itihad, an Islamist group active in Somalia in the 1990s. Puntland police arrested him last year but he was later freed on bail.

Somalia has not had a functioning government for more than 20 years. The current phase of the civil war pits Islamist insurgents against a weak U.N.-backed government, but the conflict is complicated by clan loyalties, corruption and the involvement of regional rivals Ethiopia and Eritrea.

regrouping
:| OK...

Faroole inherited a Semi-autonomous State with a 50/50 power sharing with the TFG. What has he achieved?

History before Faroole: Puntland Regions[Bari, Nugaal, Mudug, 50%[Sanaag] and 50%[Sool]]

Within his term in office:

- Bari declared new administeration[Ras caseyr], Atom has returned and captured Galgala and will soon anex Bosasso.
- Mudug is on the verge of Leelkase Vs Omar Mahamoud mutual anhilation, both also specifically are attempting to anex Garadag, Jariban, Banderbeyle and Iskushuban. They both claim ownership.
- Nugal Leelkase and cise mahamoud appear to have a power sharing and distribution of pirate loots however this honeymoon will not last.
- 50%[Sanaag] has become 0%[Sanaag]
- 50%[Sool] has become 0%[Sool]

This Map is due an update.

Personally i would rather see a stable Puntland even if under a Dictator. May allah return peace and stability back to how it was before Faroole.

On the 31st of October Chief Mohamed Ali Gacal was killed in his home by unknown gun men. The chief was well known figure, a resident in the north of Galkayo for more then thirty years although he hails from Hiiraan . Chief Abdulaahi Isaaq Baabul Kabiir, from digil & Mirifle, was also assassinated a week earlier in the North of Galka'ayo. On the 3RD of November six of the leading clergy men of Puntland were sentenced to jail terms between 10 and 15 years without a convincing prove of any wrong doing. They were alleged to have been sympathizers to Al Shabab and were refused access to lawyers to defend their case. Their names are as follows:-

1.Sheikh Ali Ahmed Hassan “Ali Gacamey”
2.Deeq Yaasin Khalif
3.Ahmed Abdirazaq Maxamed
4.Ibrahim Mohamed Shire
5.Sheikh Mahamud Samatar Mohamud
These men were all sentenced how is it possible they out of jail and still commiting murders?

You two clowns, Faroole is welcome to Moqadishu but only as the minister of information and propaganda :)

In reality Faroole will finish his term in office in Gerowe and he will achieve many good things for you two i suppose  why are you throwing away your leader like a used condom? You are heartless.

I hope the next Pland applicant in taking notes of how you treat Faroole.

The crisis that Puntland is facing today began under Cadde Muuse, there was optimism when Faroole was elected that the Cadde Muuse era was over with Dulbahante, Warsangeli etc all rejoining the Puntland project, but soon they realized Faroole is just like Cadde Muuse, in fact he's worse than Cadde Muuse.

Puntland needs a leader who can unite Beesha Harti Koombe once again, but I'm not optimistic.
