AMISOM wishes to convey its condolence to the government and the people of Somalia, and the entire Muslim community, following the sad news of the sudden and untimely death of our beloved, Imam Mohamud Imam Omar Ali.

He has been known over many years for spearheading unity and reconciliation amongst the Somalis. We shall always remember and miss him. We shall always be thankful to the Almighty Allah for such a kind-hearted friend and brother, who has lived such a fulfilling life. His departure is a big loss not only to his family, but to all the people of Somalia and all peace lovers in the world at large. He always stood by the cause of peace and was an ally of AMISOM in all the difficult times and was a source of encouragement in our quest for a peaceful Somalia.

May the Almighty Allah bless his soul and help those remaining to follow his example and complete the cause of peace and the creation of a better and prosperous Somalia, which he always cherished.

I don't think anyone sensible wants Al-shabaab to govern the country however. I see Shabaab however as a symptom, rather than the problem. Al-shabaab are a symptom of occupation and foreign inteference. Seeing as how they're the only party to fight against this imperialist force, they will always get support for their cause. Now if you take away the motivation to join them, then they can easily be picked off.

The unfortunate thing about this however, is that the Americans will not allow any form of Islamic government in Somalia, that is independent. They want a government that is under their control. Ask your brother Sheikh Shariif on the realities of that.

So if the Imaam really supports the American agenda in Somalia, then may allah swt forgive him, but thats not a good opinion to have. I want a stable, somalia, that is independent. I don't think Somalis want a secular state like Siyaad barre's, nor an extreme governship (which by the way is Unislamic) that Shabaab is running at the moment. We are ummahtun wasat- a community in the middle.
