The rise and fall of Al-shabaab

Postby galia » Sun May 15, 2011 1:52 am

This obscure group, that became incredibly popular among Somalia's most powerful and largest clan. Who portrayed themselves as a nationalist front that would unify and solidify the Hawiye clan. Assist and help to seek revenge for the hawiye clan, in destroying Abdullahi Yusuf's TFG and challenging the international community on how dare they by lethal force and destruction bring ethiopian troops into Mogadishu and seat Abdullahi Yusuf. Hawiye who had earlier felt that they had achieved peace and unity through the popular Islamic courts.

In these conditions did Al-shabaab rise, through the blood and sheer numbers and courage of Hawiye youth did this group gain power. The international community could do shiit cos Hawiye runs things in Somalia. We majority, what we support becomes the big daddy in Somalia.

Within these past two years, Harakaat Al-shabaab mujahideen, made vital mistakes after vital mistakes. That is they choose to align themselves with non-hawiye clans that stood against the overall interest of Hawiye. Harkaat Al-shabaab Mujahideen even went further by forming strong links with eelaays, isaacs and daroods.
This destructive pattern became ever more visible when Hawiye's most powerful subclan, Haber Gider. Were refused complete leadership role, access and control to revenues. Disarming of Haber Gider militias became the norm of Harkaat Al-shabaab, which at this point became domininated by Rahaweyene (eelaays), isaacs, daroods.
Anger grew when, Al-shabaab challenged Hizbul Islam and succeeded.

At this point the majority of Hawiye shifted their support towards, the TFG. So there you have it, Al-shabaab alienated thee biggest and most powerful clan.
That's why its failed.

The new TFG could learn from this, especially as it increasingly sets to look as if its about to become a real government.
