Transcending clan politics demands a federal system of governance. This is the only mechanism which can accomplish this. Unfortunately the TFG has failed to take hold of this vision. In contrast to this vision, a good portion of those who comprise the TFG are strongly inclined towards a unitary system, which is the very system which exacerbated clan politics and divided Somali.

A true federal system of governance where the both the existence of clan is acknowledged while simultaneously creating one nation, capable of generating the appropriate sentiment of solidarity with and loyalty to the state, with citizens who gain their identity from country rather than from clan I think is Somalia's best hope and not a unitary system of government where the leader of that government, by the very nature of Somali clan system, will result in the leader relying on his clansmen to control the resources of the country, and in doing so marginalize the remaining clans.

I support Puntland as a whole and not just MJs in particular because they don't cower away from the current corrupt TFG when they need to be put in check, long may Puntland exist because there is no implanting unitary system while its around.

Time has laid bare the multiple inadequacies of Sheikh Sharief as President. He is not articulate in any international language, not even in Arabic. Btw to be fair all the UN Envoys to Somalia have been 100% useless from Walad Cabdalla to Mahiga to others. That being said I'm pretty sure a UN Envoy's Job Description goes something along the lines of "Maintain the status quo..keep Somalis divided..do a good job acting like You're doing work.."

Ould Abdallah tried his best unfortunately NOBODY can mediate between different factions that are simply not ready or willing to work for peace .It is always easier to put the blame on somebody else .Ould Abdallah worked his ass off , tried almost every combination possible to accommodate either this part or this other one .
