A while ago I tried to take a fast compressed course on Italian and I immediately recognized about half of the vocabulary we had in class. In terms of remember vocabulary, I honestly think Italian should be the easiest language for a Somali to learn.

voltage, lol@pidgin what you have to understand is that most of these english words were very difficult for us to pronounce so we pronounced it our own way - same way most arabic words were changed slightly i.e. jaajuus instead of jaasuus and isniin instead of ithnayn.

What makes it fucked up? As long as you don't make it pidgin, adopted words are always changed to the phonology of the new language.

Arabic words adopted by English

Al-Jabar = Algebra
Al-kharizmi = Algorithm
A-qobba = Alcove

What's fucked up is something like Hotel becoming Hudheel in waqooyi dialect. If it became Hutelka, it would make sense and not be pidgin.

For every Italian loanword used by Somalis there is a Somali term that actually exists for that topic. Unless of course we're talking about terms that are specific to Italy like baasto.
