Man, I was raised on sci-fi. There are also a ton of shows that I've watched and didn't list, simply cause I hated them. Babylon 5, Lexx, Stargate, Andromeda, etc. I tried watching Stargate, but I couldn't stand the continued arrogance of the characters. Whenever they encounter a "primitive" species, they'd mock and ridicule them subtly, usually because of their beliefs and practices. I couldn't stand this, and found it offensive at times. Star Trek had few similar instances, but the majority of their episodes dealing with new species centred around respect and rights. The whole Prime Directive thing was appealing to me, I guess.Alpha

The Prime Directive was a guideline that wasn't always followed to-the-letter. Every captain (have yet to see DS9, though) tossed it aside at times. But yeah, Janeway was horrible at applying it.The Prime Directive was applied rather arbitrarily, especially in voyager.
The Prime Directive was developed from Vulcan policy that had been established before the Vulcan First ContactI feel like the Prime Directive was something the Vulcans came up with and forced its way through the UFP.
It struck me as very logical and unhuman
