I was told by an elder that Mareexaan means 'Ma riix maan'= those that can't be pushed i.e. Mareexaan are powerful that you can't push them out unless they push you out. Hence Mareexaan pushed out Borans from Gedo when the Mareexaan migrated to South Somalia before they lived in Sanaag/Nugaal and Kilinka 5aad.

Well my suspicion is that the clans are several thousand years old, and have been "sheegato-shuffled" several times over the ensuing centuries into various confederations (Borana, Barentuma, Samaale, Saabe, Arsi, Tuulaama, Maacca, Alaa, etc). The original clan structure is long forgotten and probably originated in ancient Punt.

I am more and more convinced that there existed a certain number of clans (basic constituents or raw material) that are build in federation like Borana, bareentuma, Samaalee...at times these federations broke and the same constituents regrouped differently in other confederations with exclusion or addition of sheegattos!

Its clearly visible in Oromo clans! one can even easily find out the basic constituents the original clans!
I suspect before the self styled arabism claim, somalis probably had moieties like oromo (Gurgura has still moieties) and followed the same constructing patterns.
This means Oromo and Somali identity are only blanket identities for probably heterogenous clan federations
Probably we are the biggest sheegattos of the world

You are also close, I have been told by some elders why Mareexaan are called that, they explained that the Mareexaan tribe were powerful and would always defend itself and wouldn't allow any people to push them out therefore they are strong aka can't be pushed. Ma riix maan aka Ma reexaan.
