You could think of it like this - that Ilaahay had already chosen for the nabi SAWS a wife - Khadiijah RA. What could be better than having such an extraordinary woman as the wife of the prophet?

Anyway, this entire show had the touch of western orientalism - especially how they tried to downplay the importance of Makkah before the birth of the Nabi SAWS.

And PO is right, they missed one of the early and key aspects of his prophethood when waraqa predicted that he was really the final Messenger and how he wished he was young enough to support him. They also seemed to downplay the prophet's lineage making Bani Hashim seem lowly compared to the other clans of Quraish.

But then again the BBC isn't a muslim broadcast company, is it?

Exactly. They have to look a bit "unbiased", although no such thing is required for an Ciise documentary. Still, it wasn't too bad

What is it with you guys and saying some bits are false and yet not mention exactly what is and where they got it wrong... :? :? :?
Where do you want me to start..?
There were a lot of historical inaccuracies like the importance of the Prophet's *saw* tribe and even the city of Mecca. Other inaccuracies include when he stated that the hadith were written down after the Prophets death *earliest being 200 years after the Prophet's death*, which isn't true, as it's a known fact that some of the Sahaba wrote down the sayings and even actions of the Prophet *saw* during his lifetime.

But I suppose they did a fairly good job as they tried to put the point across that the Prophet *saw* was a well respected iyo peaceful man!

Still there's two more parts.. Lets wait and see... :|

You people are getting mad because they didn't give bani hashim the prophets scw tribe as much due as they deserve. You guys are right, but to say that they were as important as you guys might think is also wrong. Banu Hashim's last great leader was the prophet's scw grandfather Abdal Muttalib, which he was practically the sayid of Mecca. After him, Banu Hashim weren't seen as part of the leaders of Mecca anymore, and this is where the video was a little accurate. Abu Talib who was the head of Banu Hashim, had a very rough time, and lost a lot of wealth. Even to the point where he couldn't support his family, that is why the Prophet scw took in Ali ra, Abbas took in Talib, and Hamza took in Ja'far. Though they were still part of the leading noble families, at this time the tribes of Bani Shams, and Mukhzum were the real leaders with most of the wealth in Mecca.

Also, West. It is true that Hadith wasn't collected until that time, even if little bits and pieces might of been collected here and there nothing of it lasted. The proof that it wasn't collected in any real degree is that when Abubakar made his own collection of about 500hadith, he destroyed it saying how can he do something that was never done by the prophet. And after that there was no attempt to put it any corpus.
