Do Somalis think they're the only ones?

Malay tribes, Nigerian tribes, Arab tribes from Morocco to Iraq, the Iranian ayatollahs - every single Muslim ethnic group has 1 or more tribes or sects that claim descent from Banu Hashim - this is a fact.

yhh this is pretty much true. A lot of times, it could have been a Banu Hashim who taught them the deen and therefore saw him as their father, and later descendants unknowingly believed that was their ancestor.

it is a common practice all over muslim world to claim Hashimite birth right, i seen Malay, Turki, Fulani, Oromo, and even Daarood, Isaaq, Sheekhaal, Ajuraan and great Eeyle claiming being Hashimi.
But what is certain about Afar people is:

According ancient Arab genealogist of horn of Afrca 2/3 of Afar people are Marehan related people, i dont remember the name of that people but i saw 900-1000 yrs old Arab book that was called if i am correct "Nasabatu Xabasha" in that same book many Somali clan were classified that time as Galla or Habasha. the book is available in Arab world just check out Yemeni or Omani old book shops or lib.
