I think Obama will win a slim reelection in 2012.

Remember he "captured and killed" Bin Laden. Obama will make sure to remind people of that constantly in the coming year.

i'll still vote for him but my state, Maryland, will go blue regardless

but he isn't going to win in these battleground states like Ohio cause his base of supporters feel like he sold them out

can't believe he still extended bush tax cuts and didnt demand revenue increases

Obama has a lot of money, he’s the incumbent, the Republicans don’t have a strong candidate (magic underwear boy just doesn’t cut it), and he still has that near icon status. Remember that slogan: God is Great. Obama is Greater.

Obama is a centrist president. I think a lot of leftists like you were expecting him to be a left winger, like the right tried to portray him as. All the way from his days as President of the Harvard Law Review, to the Oval Office, he has been a centrist leader that has sought to chart a middle course. And he has to be, America is a center right country.

And like I said, while he won't win with the big margins of 08, I think he will still be able to pull a relatively slim victory because all the other candidates suck and he has a billion dollar war chest. I was reading an article the other day that said he could lose half a dozen swing states and still win the 270 needed for the white house.

I'm not a leftist, I'm actually quite center, center left. But the debt deal was quite to the right. Had there been increased taxes for the 2% of millionaires who aren't paying their fair share, it would have been fine and much more balanced.

Boehner said his caucus got 98% of what they wanted. We all know that as well.

I understand Obama was under pressure of default but I feel he got pushed around by these folk in the House.

I'm not convinced he can win the electoral college, i'm looking at the 2008 map and dropping states like virginia, north carolina, ohio, indiana, nevada as places he has no shot at winning in 2012

sure he has $1 billion but the job market sucks, ordinary people feel the pinch as their salaries aren't going up... and the young folks who mobilized for him in 2008 are graduating/graduated and don't have work... the economy has to REALLY get it going for him but it looks like we have a double dip coming despite the jobs report from last month.

Obama can lose Florida, Ohio, Indiana , North Carolina , Virginia , Nevada and one or two of the other smaller swing states and still be reelected President. I think states like Michigan and Pennsylvania will remain loyal to him because his stimulus spending saved hundreds of thousands of jobs, and saved the auto industry in Michigan which makes him untouchable there. If he is able to keep the “coalition of the hopeful” consisting of the progressive blacks and whites who elected him in 08, he can still reach 270. But it looks like a lot of you are bummed from his inability to use the bully pulpit very well, and that’s because he’s not experienced. But I think a sufficiently bad republican candidate will motivate a lot of progressives to the polls.

I was reading about the 81 million Obama recently raised, and half of it was contributed by small donors. The economy is still bad, but Obama still has that inspirational icon status in my opinion that will give him another victory. And while the dems did get the shorter end of the stick with the debt ceiling, I think this is the result of a divided congress. Obama in my opinion remained dignified (like his high office demands) throughout the whole affair, it wasn't like he was going to leave the White House and argue with a bunch of dimwitted tea party populists whom Senator John McCain aptly called "bizarro".

If the Republicans can't present a respectable candidate, i'll either stay home or cast my vote for Obama if they propose a total douche like Romney or Bachman.

This election won't be one where Obama wins through the "Yes We Can" and "Hope" b.s, it's going to be a dirty mud slinging campaign. And if there's one thing Obama is good at, it's campaigning.
