Soon after the Islamic courts took over Mogadishu and south Somalia 99% of farms and Houses were claimed back to their rightful owners and the one percent remaining are people that moved to other regions and don’t want to come back anymore, to proof that you are the owner of a property you don’t need to bring a document all you need is to bring a former neighbor as a witness and because of Alshabab’s harsh punishment there wasn’t a single case where the occupier went to court because the outcome may result amputation of a leg and a hand.

Ask shirib, most of the illegal occupiers indeed left voluntarily prior to the owners came back, friend of mine his father owned a 1000 acre farm in Afgooye right next to the river where in the past was illegally occupied by thugs and when 2006 Islamic courts captured in Mogadishu the occupiers disappeared in the middle of the night, since his father died his older brother went back to reclaim the farm in 2009 and the neighbors told him the thugs vanished three years ago.
