greenday - its pronounced differently than "dog", I think that's where you're having the hard-time understanding it. :lol:


ina aadan - with names like those, you'd end up tempting our grand-mothers & their mothers out of their graves. :mrgreen:

I noticed names say a lot about the regions too; the terrains, weather, nomadic vs farming communities, etc.

Golden oldie names are true gems. Everytime I hear Ceebla, Cambaro, Axado, Calaseey, Isniino, etc reminds me of my grandmothers (AUN).

KOA - Roda is a cool name, Dhool too. Not sure if Nadira & Huda are authentic Somali names though.

War i've never seen anyone called "doog" as in greenery not dog :lol: :lol: i love the name ugbaad and its similar in meaning. And I thought it would make a nice name.

I dont know if Huda or Nadira are Somali names but i like names such as Baxsan, Barni, Culan, dheeho, hibo, kaafiya, johorad, kinsi, Ladan, Siman :up:

Never heard of Dhoog as a name before.

I have met Kutubo,wish it was Kutubeey tho :D And Candiyo was something

Greenday Parents/grandparents of the new born always try to choose the name.I am thinking whomever bids highest should get the right. :D

Aaaa Bean its doog da it not Dhoog :twisted: I know what you mean grandparent, this happend to ma aunti, she named her baby and his hooyo was like gabarta waa u waqlaleynaa and they gave her a different name :lol:

It is a sign of greater cultural decay. I think the main culprit is the lack of education. Even the so-called educated Somalis in the diaspora have little to no knowledge of Somali history, culture and language. Add to that the fact that the overwhelming Somalis are either illiterate or semi-illiterate which makes the brainwashing and misleading of Somalis relatively easy.
