Is this one of those stories that you take literally or there is a scope for interpretation?
Perhabs i always search for a deeper meaning even when there is none but here is my eccentric take on this story.
The Elder told a story in parable to capture the essence of his experience and transmit it. Within the dictates of somali male emotional acknowledgement and expression. One is not able to just express their life experiences to convey it in such a manner that firstly he does not damage his masculinity and secondly to retain the attention if his audiance for the duration of his biography.
Subconscious manifestation
Marriage at 15 = Transition from child to manhood
Amina = Fortune in his life
Suldaan aar = Embodiment of moments of courage(Or courage he sought)
14 children = Opportunities in his life.
Trip to Cadan = The risk he took to seek greater fortune than that he already had.
Amina tended to appear in moments of poverty(Hargeysa and Moqadishu)
The broken Oath that cost him everything = The regret mechanism.
The Elder went on to have 3 other kids and they are parents themselves. Now if i was his age and i wanted to share my experiences of my younger years i would be considerate to my relatives and also satisfy my religious obligation. For instance a man of his age who has a burning desire to share the fact that he had many women in his younger years and he experimented and for what ever perverted sense needed to convey the highs and lows of his ecstasy years this would be one clean means of doing so.
He is just saying been there done that and now i have left a portion of it in your memories... old men who sing were all play boys in their younger years. The Pleasures he had can only be explained by the unseen jins...
