We'll never get a satellite update on Garowe

Last week I sent in a request to get an update on Garowe and its 20-mile radius, and I thought it was going to be no biggy coughing up $300 or so to experience something I enjoy.






Today I got a reply back from the company and they demanded $92,000 for the coverage area.

We ain't ever gonna see it :-[

monk when was the last google earth update on images in somalia/somaliland - I think some of the cities in somaliland are from 2009 what about PL?

Bosaso is the newest, the latest one is from May 2011, updated recently from July 2006. Gaalkacyo is from 2005. Garoowe is 2003. Borama is 2004. Burco is 2004. Hargeysa just got updated to 2011 from 2009. Qardho is from 2009. Las Canood is from around 2004/5 I think. Berbera is relatively new, 2009 or 2010. Beletweyn from 2007. Jamaame from 2007. Dhobleey from 2010. Kismayo from 2005. Xamar from 2009. Baydhabo from 2010 I believe, they just updated it from around 2006.

I think cities get updated based on priority from NGO groups and local government requests. A lot of the cities being updated are part of the UN-HABITAT and local government urban planning program, so there's requests out for them. I see Burco and Garowe being the next candidates, we'll likely see an update in the next year since they are part of the program.

I'm thinking the same for Burco, which its last satellite update was 2004.
