"Forks over Knives!"

Postby Avicenna » Fri Sep 30, 2011 10:48 pm

Examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting our present menu of animal-based and processed foods.
If you haven't seen it yet, its worth watching.

P.s. available on Netflix online streaming.

Interesting...I think it has more to do with processing and the genetic modifications of food products, rather than having an animal-rich diet. Example: Somalis

All things proportioned and in moderation. Over-consumption of meats, yes, may likely lead to poor health. Cut out dairy? Ya nuts? Moderation and exercise. I don't think it's too difficult if you can afford to gorge like your life depends on it.

Its a nifty, short documentary that highlights what is widely accepted in the medical community i.e. the foods that we consume have the potential to cause diseases like cancer, hypertension, autoimmune diseases, etc. Its not so much about meat (although animal fats are infamously known as coronary artery cloggers), but like you said - the bigger concern is the chemistry of much of the foods we consume today; high sodium, high fat, high fructose corn syrup content, and all those preservatives. There's evidence that processed foods cause a host of illnesses that otherwise wouldn't have happened if we stuck to organic produce and limited our meat consumption.

I made a topic about this same issue a few months ago and recommended a book called "Clean" by Dr. Alejandro Junger and even went on his detox diet.

I'd say your odds are better than the sedentary carnivores who are unwilling to accept the reality that is the food industry in this country.

Organic and fresh was the norm in Somalia, not the case in our current status. Diseases like cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, allergies, depression, coronary artery disease are all linked to diet & lifestyle. Combined, the aforementioned illnesses constitute a large percentage of current diseases in the developed world. Its no longer infectious diseases, its lifestyle diseases that have no cure. Exercise and being a concious consumer is no longer an option, its a necessity. The toxins in these processed foods have nowhere to go, but to sit around in our tissues and that's where they inflict serious damage. The effect may not be immediate, it may take years, but it'll surface sooner or later in one form or another.

Avienna, do you think most people don't know bro? I noticed people are inherently lazy about this or don't really care. As long as you are not showing them daily xrays of their insides, they will go by what they see rather than what is actually happening to them. What they is an outwardly healthy body and a mouth-watering meal. I for one, know fully well my eating habits are disastrous for my long term health, but it still won't stop me from ordering prime sirloin steak every time I go out to eat.

Voltage - I'm sure most people know, but it still doesn't hurt to remind each other of these things.

There's no disease worse than cancer. That's what I've come to believe. It might even be worse than the bubonic plague, imo. Because its a slow, torturous and painful disease, without any cures. I recently met a lung cancer patient who never smoked a day in his life, and his cancer has now metastazised to his liver, kidneys (he's on dialysis), pancreas, etc. He is dying and all anyone can do for him is keep him on opiates. Its your own body destroying itself and maybe, just maybe it could have been avoided by walking/jogging another 30 mins a day and opting for a zuchinni salad rather than a mcdouble. Allahu aclam. But, if we aren't careful enough, we are headed there.

I'm sure a lot of us suffer from immunodefiencies be they genetic or the result of malnutrition. Our diet is high in fat, carbs and low on detoxifying foods like green vegetables and fruits. Then there's the simple fact that we are allergic to physical activities, deadly combination. Nothing beats prevention. Forks (being a concious & healthy consumer) over knife (going under the knife and spending your last years hooked up to machines, surrounded by doctors who see you as nothing more than a cash crop).
