Observations of a newcomer

Postby UlteriorMotive » Tue Oct 04, 2011 2:57 pm

Salaam to all,

I am new to the forum but have been observing as a guest for a little while.

1) The obsession with qabiil is absolutely breathtaking  . I was horrified at first when qabiil was injected into seemingly innocent topics. LMAO no one could ever agree on anything on this forum because of tribalism. Then it became a joke to me once I realised that most people in real life do not go this far with qabiil and so I observed the tribal bloodsport with my popcorn. The funny thing is I could more or less predict the reactions/comments of a few members after a short while. This leads me to the question, does somalinet attract a special breed of somali?

2) Some of you take the deen as a joke. I'm not merely referring unashamed atheists. But moreso some of the muslim members who should know better. For example, Hutuking (who might be a troll I don't know) calls everything and everyone kafir/murtad and calls warlords mujahids. Is this not a mockery of these very serious declarations?
Others also call warlords hailing from their clan 'mujahid'. This is an insult to those who have fought in the way of allah.

3) The hate/insults directed towards bantus is disgraceful. Although, committed by very few members the frequency with which they do it means outsiders are likely to see at least one ridiculous bantu insult when casually browsing the forum. This not only makes the forum look bad but somalis as a whole because somalinet comes up in a lot of somali-related searches. We are known for our hospitality.

I'm a new poster as well and I've noted almost all the same observations. Very astute post lol. I've got to say though, I recall coming across this forum in the past and it was much worse. It seems to have cleaned up somewhat, and the level of discussions has elevated. Still I've observed all three of the things you mentioned. That being said the laid back style sort of adds to its entertainment. Gotta admit some of the more outlandish posts are funny lol.

That's everything I have seen as well. It is amazing how quick everyone is to divide each other.

Yet according to all the qabilist posters they never ever chat about anything qabiil related in real life.. :|
