The doctor's ( I mean the nurse's) sanity is questionable if you ask me. He is under qualified to tackle such a huge task like this. But at least he is trying to help them which is commendable. Somalia's mentally ill are ignored and nobody pays much attention to them. They are also steroetyped, stigmatized and shunned for their mental illness which is just unfortunate.


When I was in Somalia, the way the mentally ill were treated broke my heart. The mentally ill's families can't get them the adequate help they need either because their is no qualified doctors or facilities that deals with the mentally ill or they don't have the financial means to get them help. So, you will see mentally ill people wondering around the streets of every major Somali cities with nobody to care for them.

Also, a point that the report made that struck a chord with me is, Somalia has one of the highest rates of mentally illness in the world. With 21 years of civil war, there a lot of people who are suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia and a lot of other psychological disorders.

all in all, Somalia desperately needs qualified doctors that can care for Somalia's growing mentally ill people.

The so called "Nurse" is not crazy. But he adapted the way he communicate with crazy ones. He been doing this for years. He is very professional specialised somalidiid handicapped. I think you guys misunderstood the tone he was using. Isn't it.

Let's not blow reality out of proportion here. Yes there are many mentally handicapped especially those who spent years in refugee camps like Utanga, Kakuma and dadaab but their numbers are highly exaggerated here. You can't tell me one third of Somalis are mentally ill and most mentally ill Somalis are in the West and not Somalia. In Somalia you are either completely crazy which very few are or perfectly healthy but most somalis in the West are somewhere in between.
