950 Years Of Calling To Tawheed

Postby Mujaheedah-fee-Sabi'lilah » Tue Sep 06, 2005 5:47 pm

asalam

this was the Da’wah of Nuh (alayhi sallam):

Allaah (subhaanahu Wa t’aalaa) created Aadam ‘(alayhi sallam) as the first of mankind; his people accepted his call to Tawheed and remained on it for some time.

Ibn ‘Abbas (radee Allaahu ‘anhu) narrates:

“Between Aadam (‘alayhi sallam) and Nuh (‘alayhi sallam) there were ten generations all upon Tawheed.” (Tahdheerus-Saajid min Ittikhaadhil-Quboori Masaajid, Pgs. 101-106)

Then events took place turning some people from this pure state of Tawheed into committing shirk, i.e. the origins of shirk.

Allaah (subhaanahu wa t’aalaa) says:

“And they have said: ‘You shall not leave your gods: nor shall you leave Wadd, nor Suwaa’, nor Yaghooth, nor Ya’ooq, nor Nasr’.” (71:23)

Ibn ‘Abbas (radee Allaahu ‘anhu) narrates:

“Indeed these were righteous men from the people of Nuh. When they died Shaytaan whispered to their people to make statues of them and to place these statues in their places of gathering as a reminder of them, so they did this. However, none from amongst them worshipped these statues, until when they died and the purpose of the statues was forgotten. Then (the next generation) began to worship them.” (Saheeh al-Bukhaaree 11/418 & Saheeh Muslim 18/52)

So this is how shirk started, from the places of stones to mark a pious person and then eventually leading to shirk. So Allaah (subhaanahu wa t’aalaa) sent Nuh (alayhi sallam) as the second prophet and the first Messenger to mankind, he was sent to call his people to the worship of Allaah (subhaanahu wa t’aalaa) alone and for them to abandon the false deities they were worshipping.

Allaah (subhaanahu wa t’aalaa) says:

“Verily, We sent Nuh to his people (saying): ‘Warn your people before there comes to them a painful torment’.” (71:1)

So Allaah (subhaanahu wa t’aalaa) ordered this great Messenger to warn his people, but what did Nuh (alayhi sallam) warn them about?

Allaah (subhaanahu wa t’aalaa) says:

“He said: ‘O my people! Verily, I am a plain warner to you, that you should worship Allaah (Alone), be dutiful to Him, and obey me; He (Allaah) will forgive you of your sins and respite to an appointed term. Verily, the term of Allaah when it comes, cannot be delayed, if you but knew’.” (71:2-4)

Hence this great Messenger ordered his people to the worship of Allaah Alone, but most of the people did not accept the call of this great Prophet to Tawheed; however he persisted in calling them. The people used to warn each other from accepting this call.

At-Tabaree reports from Qataadah:

“It has reached us that a man would take his son to Nuh (‘alayhi sallam) and say to his son: ‘Beware of this man, don’t let him lead you astray, for I remember when I was your age; my father brought me to him and warned me against him just as I am warning you’.”

As we know the people who accepted this call were saved on the ark, but what was the punishment for those who rejected this call to Tawheed?

Allaah (subhaanahu wa t’aalaa) says:

“Because of their sins they were drowned, then were made to enter the Fire. And they found none to help them instead of Allaah.” (71:25)

So we advise our brothers and sisters to look at the life of this great Prophet and see how persistent he (‘alayhi sallam) was in the call to Tawheed. Does this not illustrate the great importance of the call to Tawheed? We ask our dear brothers and sisters to be wary of falling into the trap of the modern callers claiming that Tawheed is easy and takes a short time to learn.

Know that the scholars of the past wrote books [1] on this subject, as well as explanations of these books, running into many volumes. So we advise ourselves first, and then YOU, to learn Tawheed from authentic sources, implement it, teach it, call to it, defend it and its people and to warn against those and that which opposes it (shirk).

Footnote:

[1] The great Imaam of Madeenah, Imaam Maalik bin Anas said:

“The Sunnah is like the ark of Nuh (‘alayhi sallam), whoever embarks upon it is saved and whoever abandons it is destroyed.”
