ABDULLAHI YUSSUF?...... IS HE YOUR HERO OR YOUR VALEIN?

Postby TZ Somali » Thu Sep 08, 2005 6:25 am

I vividly remember it was almost two years ago when I was in a my University dormitory watching a crowd of jubilant Somalis in the evening television news jumping with utter excitements in the streets of Nairobi, Kenya as the initial agreement that led to subsequent formation of transition government was reached.

Two years of the shear excitements and jubilant crowd that I saw on BBC television has given way to overwhelming disappointments. Abdullahi Yussuf’s government has proved to be nothing but just another farce of mounting political disappointments that the Somalis masses have unfortunately got well acquainted with. I must admit although I haven’t had the privilege to have born in and live in Somalia, hence my username; but just like any other Somalis I greeted the news initially with a sense of relief and brief apprehension of jubilation that finally Somalia has got a government and the process of political and tribal reconciliation and the rebuilding the shattered country will at last be underway to recover the country from brink of self extinction.

To my horror the optimisms that I and many other Somalis shared initially throughout the globe was short lived when typical pattern of Somalia’s tribal politics emerged, it was a matter of days when my hope and that of many of my countrymen ware dashed, this time by marauding Somali parliamentary elders wielding sticks (Bakoraat) in their opposition against the proposed deployment of Ethiopian troops by Mr. Abdullahi Yussuf in responds to such proposal most of the MPS lost their sanity and sort to expressed themselves through violence under the spotlight of international media; making a mockery of the progressed made and giving talk show hosts across the globe some thing to giggle about.

Although I do not condone violence in any form or shape and also the despicable behavior of the Somalis elders and Mps alike, but in my view President Abdullahi Yussuf should blame no one but the marriage of convenience he has forged with Prime Minister Males Zenawi of Ethiopia, we all know the level of hate, political distrust and not to mention heightening level of animosity that has been the focal point of relationship between the two countries.

The relationship of the these two nations has been marred by history of violence and series of bloodlettings, I am certain that having been a Colonel himself in the former Somali army and once fought against the Ethiopian regime of Mingustu Haile Mariam; President Abdullahi Yussuf would have definitely knew the extent of political turmoil his proposal and the subsequent request to deployed the Ethiopian troops under the auspicious of IGAD mandate to disarm the warring parties would have bring or generated, but nevertheless he chosen to proceed and remain oblivious to the political history of both two nations.

Now my question is why would he go to such extent to deploy the Ethiopia’s troops against the will of the majority Somalis except from certain portion of the population mostly from his tribe or clan? After careful thought I am compel to conclude with this bold assumption; is my belief that Abdullahi yussuf proposal to deployed our arch enemy’s army was not the result of political spell from the Ethiopians or that of his deteriorating second hand liver rejecting his somewhat aging body, but his proposal was a mere product of imprudent political calculations, he sort to gain military manpower to secure and sustain his despised government once it arrives in Mogadishu from the warring warlords opposed to him, thanks to his lack of sense charisma, political experience and basic intelligence he has instead achieved completely the opposite to his objective by managing to unite the majority of Somalia’s warlords which has been unheard-off in the history of the civil war.

I must admit there is no avenue for Mr. Abdullahi Yussuf to rehabilitate his dying career politically, he has lost the political support he has enjoyed during the initials days of the formation of his government in Nairobi, Kenya; but I may add he does still have chance to attain the little integrity left in his somewhat delusional character by at least rescue his government from eroding recognition from the majority of Somalis not to mention the pending humiliations should he persist with his repugnant political stance; I’m afraid this entails him quitting the presidency immediately and politics all together in doing so these move should grant him the necessary time to rest and cater to his failing health by at least renegotiating the fast expiring “terms of contract” with his ill-disciplined and very rebellious liver that he has snatched from dead corpse somewhere in so called “Puntland”.
