Come on Monk, you know that is just an anecdotal evidence. I don't know what kind of Somali girls you have met in your life, but the kind I know are not attractive to "the bad boy Image." In fact, most are turned off by it. In contrast, it is the Somali men who are almost always running around with foreign women and engaging in premarital sex and other activities are not culturally or religiously permissible. I am not attempting to make Somali women look like angels, but Somali men are more likely to do those things.

I know a lot of Somali women who are not only attracted to the "conservative, low-testosterone dude as a partner" but they can't even find them because they rarely come along.

I am not stressing the issue, however, it is preposterous to blame the spread of sexually transmitted diseases on women only. In the end of the day, it depends on the guy/girl morals, and values and what kind of activities they do and it has nothing to do with gender or age. Just saying.
Hmm, it must be about location or something, these days I rarely - if ever - come across a Somali guy I would consider "unsuitable." They're a solid bunch, and I say this as a man who is a pervert, misogynist, takfiri, and liable to commit brutal crimes.

Oh the whole, for both genders, these days I don't see any bad apples. I'm quite impressed with that I see, but at the same time I'm out of the loop when it comes to the Somali community, I only know bits and snippets that I've seen over the years.

Aren't you honest.

Yeah, I agree. Sometimes it has something to do with the geographical location and environment they live in.

Rabshoole, I disagree. There are a lot of good Somali girls, the ones you see are the ones who were let out of the house. I do agree that Somali women are tricky as hell, I wish they were simple like men. I just simply refuse to get a woman tested, I'd like to think I have enough common sense to know what's good and what's rotten.

Gedogurl, is it possible to win with you? You shoot down every suggestion to the problem. I think the issue is less extreme than we make it out to be. Yes, 14 year old whores exist, in very large numbers in the community, but its not like hoes have some invisibility cloak - if you're an adult male and you can't tell a hoe from a housewife, you deserve your fate. A lot of times I find that Somali men are very weak when it comes to women, too many guys get trampled over, Somali guys believe too much in romantic fairytales and shit. Anyway, its a cruel world and I want to be the first in the hole.
 I agree with the lad for once.

Funny you've brought this up because a friend was telling me the same thing not too long ago. Apparently there has been an increase of young Somali girls getting treated for various STIs & even HIV in my city  Illahay ha naga qabo.

HIV and other STD is a threat that is out there. Somalis who have stayed in Kenya and Ethiopia (two affected countries) - and other countries- should be screened.

Information and education is the key: instead of the constant petty news/programmes on somali websites/TV, they should allocate a spot on this issue to inform and urge people to screen.

As Gedogirl mentioned, there are many innocent men and women who without knowledge marry HIV carriers. I know of several cases.

This is EXACTLY why its spreading. Some people still dont understand that you cannot know until you have been tested. Some people get it from their first sexual experience, they dont dress and act any different to anyone. Even a hijab wearing sister who prays 5 times a day and is at home 99% of the time might have it. Stop blaming women, they get it from somewhere and it aint lesbian sex.

So I can't even blame them for banging sketchy guys and getting HIV? :| ---Did they just fall on a diseased penis? :|

I'm not blaming anyone, all I'm saying is that its easier for women to tell a good man from a rotten one, as opposed to the likeliness that men can do the same for women. This is true for every culture, not just Somalis. Men are simple critters, a simple conversation with one can reveal every facet of his day-to-day life, with 96% accuracy.

That being said, I have regressed from this topic. I will just find a 16 year old Warsangeli girl from Dhahar and thank my lord for the blessing. If HIV has reached there, then there is really no point in going further in this world.

I'm saying even the nicest seeming guy might have made his mistakes in the past. Good luck on your girl search, I only made this post as a public service announcement fior everyone to be careful.

lamagoodle   Yes, absolutely...everyone should be made more aware, they should educate people in af Soomaali

Lillahiya. Whats scary to me is that women are more inclined to get tested and this reduces the spread. Its the ones who dont go for tests and treatment that worry me. Even something as common as chlamydia can cause infertility...all it takes is antibiotics to ge rid of it and stop the spread...People should be aware of the facts.

Many Africans claim Somali when they are filing their refugee application in western countries. Therefore, it is very possible the people reported in UK are not all Somalis. In Somalia, the AIDS was imported from Ethiopia and Kenya, and due to the lack of control on Somalia's borders, many people who were already affected in neighbor countries bring the disease back into Somalia.

There was a report where Ethiopian troops who were affected with AIDS were deliberately sent to all Somali territories in order to spread this devastating epidemic disease.

Another area that is responsible for the spread of AIDS is the blood transfusion that takes place in Somalia. There are no rules whatsoever to demand the screening of the blood before it is transferred to the next person. Many people were affected with AIDS through that process.

Remaining 20 years in civil war has its own devastating effects at every level you look at it. Still, Somalia has the lowest AIDS affection in all of the sub-saharan African countries.

^^^^ denial is a horrible move. Diseases don't select their victims. We need a myriad of actions;
Information
acceptance of this maligma by the somali press, elders and religious leaders
Acceptance of condoms

and

lastly encourage people to screen themselves.

P.s. HIV is no longer a deadly disease and the carrier can lead a good life if detected earlier.

Udun...this is first hand experience, the people in these clinics spoke Somali. As lamagoodle said, HIV doesnt select people based on ethnicity, it can affect.
