Somali students outperform native blacks in Seattle

don't compare Somalis with African Americans. Africans Americans come to college to sell dope, and talk to white girls, and get free internet access. Somalis enroll in the hardest majors such as engineering, medical, and computer science majors in college while african american students tend drop out or enroll in easy vocational certificate programs such as barber shop, chef, music or sport or entertainment.
the only black ppl in high math are either Somalis or other East African immigrants.
the problem is, African American parents will never blame their children, they blame the teachers, or the government for not making their kids learn something, while Somali parents will blame their kids and beat them.

you generalization of american madows as people who come to college to do other "things", not study, is very inaccurate. if you know the history of this country, probably you wouldn't be saying stuff like this. i easily get irritated when ignorant and narrow-minded people like you say stuff like that about African Americans. how dare you talk like that, knowing that without them you would be nothing in america. i can't imagine how ignorance is deeply rooted in our society! i really can't!

now to the main point: i think Somali students have the potential to do a lot better if both parents get involved in their education. but the sad reality is that most of these student's parents are not educated at all and can do nothing to help them do homework or other educational activities. i am 100% sure if Somali students are given the same opportunity as the high-performing students, they will do the same or even better. i can assure you that because i have seen it and witnessed it.

i don't believe in IQs or all that other stuff. it is how you make of yourself, not what others think of you.

Its hard when you dont have a reference point any more. We are lucky because our societies/music etc still promote these values 99.99% of the time. Theirs is a big issue.

As if that's an achievement. I am slightly embarrassed because I had hoped somalis would be doing much better than that in the states (I mean losing out to amxara and ormos?WTF). Beating african americans academically, is like beating an armless kid in a wheel-chair in a boxing match. Even a squirrel can beat madow in a test.
