How many years have Somalis been saying there is valuable materials and resources in the country and that invaders will come to take it, but to this day there has been no show of it at all.

So why on earth would the British of all people send foot soldiers and an army to invade somalia with no proof of anything
However, some analysts doubt that UK is motivated purely by concern about British tourists and aid workers being attacked and kidnapped in Somalia and the rise of piracy in the region.

Somalia holds vast oil and gas reserves and other natural resources, including uranium, which the US and other countries have had their eyes on for years.

Many also point also to Somalia’s strategic position, with critical oil transport roots crossing its territory to the Gulf of Aden

(Reuters)
Britain will host an international conference next year on tackling instability in Somalia and protecting ships from pirates in the Gulf of Aden, Prime Minister David Cameron said on Monday.

The Somali conference was to "focus attention on protecting merchant ships passing through the Gulf of Aden, tackling pirates, pressurising the extremists, supporting countries in the region and addressing the causes of conflict and instability in Somalia."

Yes that strategic position is the one that is disrupting there shipping routes, so the conference is mostly about that. Already the British public and the British media specifically daily newspapers are lambasting the British governments decision for spending so much on already illegal wars and putting British soldiers at risk.

To send more out and worse to an unstable country that already is fearful to the public, would just make things far worse for them. Adding to that no real confirmation on the quantities of resources I don't see this story having a foot to stand on. Seems far too heavily exaggerated.

Why would the UK invade Somalia? I mean, it would never do that on its own. They are more likely to want to be involved in any group invasion or activity that may or may not take place in the future for the purpose of maintaining their influence in the region.
