The Land of Thirst

Postby James Dahl » Tue Dec 27, 2011 1:48 pm

The Land's cracked earth thirsts for the rain. In an instant this thirsty land can become green and verdant, but with no rain, the land waits. The creatures of the land cannot wait as it does, and they suffer when the rains do not come.

Much as the land thirsts for the rains to come, the people of Somali lands thirst for peace and liberty. Like rain on the dry cracked earth, the Somali people would bloom with prosperity if they were freed from their long prison of war and tyranny. The tyrants of the Somali lands will never give the people the peace and freedom that they need to realize their potential. The tyrants thirst for blood, and they feed their people only tears.

The thirsty land has had a drought for many years in many places, but the drought that has caused the most suffering is the drought of war and famine of tyranny. No drought destroyed Mogadishu, even during the worst and driest droughts, Somalia could always produce enough food to comfortably feed everyone in the nation, but it is not the years long droughts that have savaged the Somali people, but the 25 year long drought of peace.

25 years waiting. The nation waits for peace, but the people of the nation cannot wait, like the creatures of the land, they starve and die as the nation waits.

When the strong protect the weak rather than preying upon them, when the grudges are buried and stolen property is returned to the rightful owners. When people do not live in fear of violence nor under the boots of a tyrant, when the guns are locked away and people resolve disputes in front of a judge rather than on the battlefield.

That is project Utopia.

The heavens will open when aid money is cut off and people sit under a qurac (acacia tree) wearing macawiis instead of suits.
