Inappropriate Names

Postby zingii » Fri Dec 30, 2011 4:25 pm

I think its about time puntland changed its name since the letter (P) doesn’t exist in the Somali language.

Also what is Somaliland? For a Somali region settled by Somalis who speak Somali but go by an English name. In somali what is it called?

Ps, Azania is a fake name as well, we all know the letter (z) don’t exist in the Somali language.

But what is the somali version?

For instance lets say you met a nomad who herds camels and knows nothing about puntland, how would you explain it to him or tell it to him in Somali?

I guess the Somali geel jire knows it according to the tribes that live in the area or local town names. but the region as a whole is a new concept hence the name puntland.

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to change it to somali name since the inhabitants of the region are entirely somalis?

it is only a name at the end of the day whether it be English, Somali or anything else for that matter, it doesn't make a difference. The Somali language as a whole has so many words borrowed form other languages is that inappropriate too?

No its not but lets not focus only on the names but their spellings as well.

aZania
Puntland

letters (p & z) are non existant in our language but here we have them being shoved in our throats though such letters do not exist in our alphabets.

What explanation do you have for it?

bro that is what i am talking about, you came to pick at Somaliland yet you lack the history of your own region.

Kore iyo Hoose was an Italian invenstion, Jubaland to this day lacks a native or local name, and this has left it with the retention of th Jubaland name even after the british left close to a century ago, the difference between Jubba-"land" and Somali-"land" is the later makes no sense, the land of Somali is not exclusive to that territory, infact that is a small part of the land of Somalis. Jubba-"land" only fault is retention of the english word "land", where is Somali-"land" fails in it's entirety and can be deemed inappropriate.
i have made a flag in the past for this territory and whiles considering what would be portrayed i took my time extensively researching the land, it resulted in my decision to name the territory Dooxada Jubba, i feel that name fit perfectly to the territoy.

you are so cute, our ancestors kulaha, do you then accept you are not arabs decend ? because the ancient egyptian who went on expedition on this land of punt existed before even Nabi Muhamed SCW. If you accept you are not originally arab then you deny your later part of your lineage. The Somali Dir might be ancient egyptian or the hawiyo but certainly not Darood and Isaaq, that is for sure.

also Punt is not in the same territory as todays Punt-land and because we do not have a P sound in Afsomali, for that reason Puntland name fails and it is deemed inappropriate.
